Savannah,
Georgia is one of the oldest cities in America and is home
to the largest historic district in the country.
Although an old city, it also one of the most beautiful.
The trees lining the streets make a gentle canopy shading
you from the sun as you tour the many homes from yesteryear.
The cobblestone sidewalks add to the city's charm down by
the waterfront. It is truly one of the most romantic
honeymoon spots imaginable. |
|
 |
Another spot,
not too far from Savannah, is St. Simons Island. The
landscape, definitely of natural bounty, is much the same as
it was when it was settled back in 1733. It hails
beautiful moss-draped oaks along its streets and beautiful,
blue water along the coastline.
It is definitely a
must-see in Georgia. |

If the
beach is a bit much for you and you would rather spend
your first few days as husband and wife in the
mountains, Georgia has plenty of those to sneak away
to as well. Dahlonega's best know "claim to
fame" is that it is home to the first US gold rush.
And the tradition of panning for gold lives on here at
The Gold Museum. Today, Dahlonega continues its
tradition of "gold" in the creative arts. You
can spend time at tremendous exhibitions and concerts
at the Buisson Arts Center or be swept away by
Georgia's premier community theatre company at the
historic Holly Theater. As if that is not enough
to keep you entertained, Dahlonega is in the heart of
wine country with many fine vineyards to visit
and exquisite wines to taste. Dahlonega is just
a short drive to over 30 waterfalls in the North
Georgia mountains. |

And of course,
there is Atlanta. Enjoy a trip to an Atlanta Braves
baseball game at the new ballpark, a trip to the World of
Coca-Cola to see the history of one of the world's most
known trademarks and to sample beverages from around the
world. Visit the Atlanta Arts Museum, the Center for
Puppetry Arts, the Home of Margaret Mitchell (author of
"Gone with the Wind"), and Underground Atlanta. |
Take an entire
day and spent it at Six Flags Over Georgia and then another
at Georgia's Stone Mountain Park, where there is a carving
of three Confederate heroes of the Civil War:
|
 |
Confederate President Jefferson Davis, General Robert E. Lee
and Lt. General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. The
mountain is 825 feet tall and covers 583 acres. The
top of the mountain is 1,683 feet above sea level. The
carving of the three men towers 400 feet above the ground,
measures 90 by 190 feet, and is recessed into the mountain.
The deepest point of the carving is at Lee's elbow, which is
12 feet to the mountain's surface. Not only is the
carving itself something you'll, never forget, but canoeing,
paddle boating, an antebellum plantation visits, and
Crossroads are all part of the attraction to Stone Mountain.
In the evening, bring a blanket and enjoy the laser show
held nightly during the spring, summer and fall on the lawn
in front of the mountain. |
And then
again, take another day to enjoy the new, world's largest,
aquarium.
If you want to
see the ocean, we have it here in Georgia. If you would
rather enjoy the mountains, we have them here in Georgia.
If you're a history buff and would enjoy tours and rich
history, Georgia is all about history. And if you
would like to enjoy fast, upbeat entertainment, Georgia is
the place to be.
